The checks a typed figure can reach are run: each printed column total against the rows above it, the sum of Column C against Line 3, the sum of Column G against Line 4, the certificate chain from Line 3 down to Line 9, Lines 5a and 5b against the retainage rate and the two bases they are drawn from, and two ties to last month, Line 7 against the prior Line 6 and the Column D total against the prior Column G total.

Retainage calculator

Work out G702 Lines 5a, 5b, 5, 6 and 8 from the retainage rate and the column bases they are supposed to use, then type what the pay application prints on the retainage lines and on the payment due, and each printed figure is checked against the rate and the bases you entered. When a printed figure misses, the base it does match is named, so the rate applied to this period’s work instead of to completed work to date is called out rather than reported as a bare difference.
For GCs, owners and bookkeepers checking a withholding before they pay it.

Both tools run on figures you put in yourself, using the same identities and the same nearest-dollar tolerance the product’s reconciliation engine uses. What a typed figure cannot reach is what the document prints in a column the tool computes for you: Column G, H and I come out of the four columns you type, so a printed Column G that does not equal D plus E plus F is invisible from a page you type into, and what a G702 checker cannot check sets out where that line falls.
